The greatest ideal of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI) was to realize the World Air Games. The Federation was founded in 1905 and aimed to develop air sports worldwide and to gather the people in a mutual friendship and understanding without discriminating against anyone because of the policy, race, language and religion. The Federation brings together at an international level the representatives of all the air sport disciplines such as general aviation, ballooning, gliding, aeromodelling, parachuting, aerobatics, hang gliding, microlights, rotorcraft. The organization of the 1 st World Air Games was awarded to the Turkish Aeronautical Association (TAA) by FAI. TAA was founded in 1925 by Kemal Atatürk with the purpose of developing aviation in Turkey. The 1st World Air Games organized in Ephesus-İzmir (parachuting), Honaz-Denizli (hang gliding), Gölbaşı-Ankara (aeromodelling), Aydın (microlight), İnönü-Eskişehir (planor), Antalya (general aviation) and Cappadocia-Nevşehir(balloning), between 13-21 September 1997.
