The dale, which is accepted as new year's day by the Middle Asian Turks, Anatolian Turks and the Persians, and celebrated between 21-23 March, is called Nawroz, namely the new day. Nawroz coincides with the date that the day and the night are equal, March 22 in Christian calendar, March 9 in Gregorian calendar.
The Turks accepted March 22 as the beginning of the new year and awakening of the nature, so they organized entertainments. Nawroz, as a part of the Turkish national culture is a public tradition which reflects the common culture of the Turkish tribes. Nawroz, as a feast of love for land and human beings, is an invitation for the beginning of spring, new crop, fertility and comfortable life.
The Nawroz custom gained the quality of a traditional festival, based on identical reasons in Middle Asian Turkish Communities, Persia, Anatolia and the Balkans, within the same period of time, although there are some differences in practice. Nawroz is a set of national tradition, usage and custom which unify and amalgamate all Turkish people.
Nawroz has had different contents and meanings in various cultural environments and adopted by means of cultural spread. Yet, the characteristics of the new year's day, enthusiasm, refreshment have reached to the present day without any alteration
