HOLD THE OTHER HAND-CHILD PROTECTION AGENCY PHONE CARD

Most of the children are born and brought up within a family. But not all children may have such a kind of chance. There are some children who start their life out of the family environment as well as others who are not cared and protected by their family due to the economical, psychological and physiological problems or social events such as divorce, death and imprisonment. These children are defined as "the children in need of protection".

General Directorate of the Social Services and Child Protection Agency has been given the responsibility of the children in need of protection.

The Agency  puts these children into its institutions, or these children may be placed within the families who are specially chosen and supervised by the Agency. These families are defined as "the Foster Families" and this service is called "Foster Family Service"

The Foster Families are the persons or families who take care of the children in need of protection in their home either receiving pay or voluntarily through the supervision of the Agency in short or long terms.

It has been offered a family atmosphere by the Foster Family Care to these children who would live in secure and have love and affection that they need. So, the children are taken away from the problems which cause them to be in need of protection and a good environment is provided for them in order not to feel the negative effects of living without a family and to participate in the society as a healthy individual.

According to the Regulation of Foster Family, citizens of Turkish Republic who are at least literate and reside in Turkey have the right to be the Foster Family.

The applications are accepted by the Provincial Social Services Management in provinces. After an investigation if the applicant is found suitable to be the Foster Family, a child is placed within the applicant's residence.

To share the social responsibility, "The Foster Family Campaing" was started in 1998. The slogan of this campaing is "Hold the Other Hand". By this campaign, social solidarity and support have been provided for the Foster Families.
