Bandırma Steamship landed the Great Commander and Liberator Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK and his friends in Samsun on May 19, 1919. Bandırma Steamship was build in 1878 in Glasgow City-England at H.Intiriye Paisley Shipyard for Dously Robinson Steamship Company, as a cargo ship with 279 gross tons capacity. After having been sold several times, the ship was bought by the official maritimes association of Ottoman Empire and named as “Bandırma” in 1894. In 1923, after establishment of the Republic, the ship owned by Turkish Marinetimes Association. Unfortionally, the Bandırma Steamship which carried Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in his famous voyage to Samsun which changed the flow of the history was disassembled in 1925 by a scrap dealer named İlhami Söker in Haliç, İstanbul. Although the Bandırma Steamship was scrapped in 1925, it has never been forgotten and will never be forgotten. It will live forever together with the Turkish Nation.
