Due to the fact that not enough importance is given to world forestry, the CEA suggested celebrating World Forestry Day on the 21st of March. This coincides with the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. As this suggestion was accepted, this day has been celebrated as "World Forest Day" since 1971. In Turkey it has been celebrated since 1975.

The main focus of this day is to inform the public and arouse interest via the press about the importance of protecting and improving forests and operating them effectively.

The term forest does not only refer to trees. Forest is a living organism, composed of many plants and animal groups. It is art ecological system and an original world with trees, air, water, soil, herbaceous and ligneous plants, microorganisms and animals.

26 percent of the surface of Turkey is covered with the forests. It will only be possible to protect such a richness for the enjoyment of future generations by increasing the number of national parks, nature preservation areas etc.
